Village Picnic 2021
Originally planned for the 10th July, the event has been rescheduled for Saturday 31st July from 2 to 5pm.
As a scaled down version of the traditional Village Day, with people expecting to bring their own food, drinks and seating, the Village Picnic will provide an opportunity for the community to get together again on the Oakington Recreation Ground.
In addition to a few table-top craft sales, a preloved children’s toys sale and an Orchard Mini Safari & quiz, there will be coffee and cake stalls, ice cream van and the raffle prizes for kids and adults
Village Picnic Entertainment, for the young and the not-so-young includes:
Orchard Safari, with the map for guidance
Giant games of Jenga, Chess and Connect-4
Brading Brothers folk duo
Unfortunately, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, most of the activities in the village have had to be suspended. Some groups were able to keep going by using email and Zoom, but the Village Day and Bonfire Night had to be cancelled.
One of our member groups, however, Oakington and Westwick Neighbours (OWN) has been extremely busy by providing much needed support for people in isolation, mainly by delivering their shopping, collecting prescriptions or providing them with lifts to appointments. Although it is quieter now the need may increase again over the winter. If you are able to help as a volunteer please contact email@example.com. For more information click on Oakington and Westwick Neighbours
Also our Journal Team has kept busy, producing regular issues throughout this period. Have a read by clicking on HERE. You will find lots of interesting information about the village, its people and its history.
Hopefully it will not be long before we can meet up again and enjoy community life as we once knew it - or even better! In the meantime, this might be a good opportunity to consider whether you might like to get involved with the CA some time in the future :)
The OWCA does not have its own Facebook Page but if you want a quick way to find out what is happening in Oakington and Westwick there is a great Village Facebook Page called Oaky Folk which can be found HERE.
